What is Chiropractic?

As defined by North Carolina General Statute 90-143, "Chiropractic" is herein defined to be the science of adjusting the cause of disease by realigning the spine, releasing pressure on nerves radiating from the spine to all parts of the body, and allowing the nerves to carry their full quota of health current (nerve energy) from the brain to all parts of the body.



Is a Chiropractor a “real doctor”?

Quite simply, yes. Upon graduating an accredited college or university with a degree focused in the life sciences (for example, a B.S. in Biology), one may enter a Chiropractic college. Chiropractors attend four-year academic institutions where they receive the same amount of classroom instruction or more as one would in a medical school program. The courses of study for a Doctor of Chiropractic focus on anatomy, physiology, chemistry, neurology, orthopedics, and various other health and biological sciences. In addition, Chiropractic training includes an internship in which the student doctor assists in caring for patients in a clinical setting under the direct supervision of professionals. After graduating from Chiropractic College, a new Doctor must pass national board exams and state license exams before he or she is allowed to practice in that state.

Can Chiropractic “treat” my problem?

Please re-read the definition of Chiropractic at the top of the page. Medical doctors “treat” the SYMPTOMS of disease. Chiropractors “adjust” the CAUSE of disease. That’s the difference! Every cell in the human body is controlled and coordinated directly or indirectly by the nervous system. Chiropractors adjust the spine to restore normal nerve communication between the brain cell and body cell, resulting in normal cellular function.



What type of services do you provide to the typical patient?

Although each case is different, every care plan is tailored to each patient’s needs. We offer a comprehensive examinations, including case history, orthopedic and neurological testing, and radiographic services. This provides the doctor with the information necessary to tailor a care plan for each patient. Most importantly, our Chiropractors adjust the spine! In addition, your doctor may advise you of lifestyle changes that may expedite and/or facilitate your return to health. One thing is certain, you will receive ONLY Chiropractic care at our clinic.



My medical doctor told me that I wouldn’t benefit from Chiropractic. My best friend disagreed, claiming that Chiropractic helped when other methods had failed. What should I do?

First of all, only a licensed Chiropractor can legally give a person advice on whether or not to seek Chiropractic care. If any other health care professional or layperson gives Chiropractic advice, they are actually practicing Chiropractic without a license and are guilty of a Class I misdemeanor in N.C. (N.C.G.S. 90-147 ). The only way to determine if Chiropractic care may help you is to visit a Chiropractor for a consultation.



Is Chiropractic safe?

Yes! Our patients have ranged from 3 days old to 96 years "young". The birthing process usually involves twisting and pulling of an infant's head and neck. Trauma to the neck is frequently the result. Symptoms may include excessive crying, bloating, restlessness, and indigestion. It's amazing how fast an infant responds to chiropractic care. On the other end of the spectrum, many of our senior citizens enjoy better health and increased quality and quantity of life through regular chiropractic visits.
